Our co-organizer from Liberec, Czech Republic: Jan Kubalík, DEX Innovation Centre
Why did you apply for SEW?
I set up and run a local innovation centre active in research & innovation and business support. Our small team includes people previously active in start-ups. We growed out of nothing, worked on other startups to grow, and we see other potential ideas and players active locally. We know that it is difficult to start from scratch. That is why I applied to be a local SEW organizer.
What is your goal in organizing Startup Europe Week?
To get all local current and potential players together. To teach and inspire each other. To get to know what we don’t know. To network. To get energized.
What would you give to your local community?
Inspirations. Pragmatic tips. Contacts with local authorities. Examples.
What do you think your area need in order to be a Startup friendly zone?
I think it needs primarily more entrepreneurship focused education earlier at school. It needs more entrepreneurship or startup competitions or initiatives, where more ideas could be supported to inspire others. It needs other style of thinking in people. It needs startups with good business/financing model right from the idea scratch.
What could Startup Europe and European Union do more about developing Startup ecosystem?
SE and EU could provide greater possibilities for start-up support system knowhow transfer from innovation leading countries to the innovation following countries and the countries with moderate and modest innovations. SE and EU could put more effort into Startup initiatives awareness among the ecosystems, such as this Startup Europe Week 🙂
